PAUHAUS: the wash up
Tue 12th Jun
The Brisbane Powerhouse played host to the very first PAUHAUS: a festival of contemporary music on Saturday to great success.
The refurbished venue lent itself perfectly to the sounds and vision of Australia’s best indie rock, guitar, acoustic and electronic artists and bands.
Tickets to Pauhaus sold out prior to the event, ensuring the Powerhouse was full to the brim with excited punters, great music and awesome visuals.
Organisers would like to thank the artists who performed at PAUHAUS, the punters who attended, and all the staff for their contribution to the show. Additionally, organisers would also like to thank the incredibly supportive press, electronic and digital media for their assistance in getting the word out - in particular to Brisbane music fans.
There were no injuries, nor arrests at Pauhaus.
With musical highlights too many and varied to mention here, we look forward to feedback on the show through www.myspace.com/pauhausfestival
Cheers,
PAUHAUS

Dave McCormack and The Temper Trap join PAUHAUS bill! National launch of Go Betweens tribute album!
Wed 9th May
With the sawdust swept away, and the finishing touches being put on the Brisbane Powerhouse for its re-launch across the Queen’s Birthday weekend, PAUHAUS is pleased to announce the final line-up for Saturday 9 June. PAUHAUS is also chuffed to host the national album launch of WRITE YOUR ADVENTURES DOWN – A TRIBUTE TO THE GO-BETWEENS.
A true modern-day lover, DAVID McCORMACK emerged from Kenmore circa 1970 to become a pivotal player in many of Brisbane’s most (and least!) important bands of the 1990s. Including – and in no particular order - Who’s Gerald, Custard, COW (and its offshoot Calf), and Frank ‘n’ Stein. After the demise of Custard in 2000, David went on to lead The Titanics then hit it solo with his backing band, The Polaroids. PAUHAUS is pleased as punch that David will be stripping it back with just a guitar for company when he plays in acoustic mode in the Visy Theatre.
The final addition to the PAUHAUS bill is Melbourne’s THE TEMPER TRAP. Currently a four-piece on the look-out for a fifth member, The Temper Trap have spent the last 12 months honing their live show in front of audiences around the country, supporting bands like Modest Mouse, Kasabian and The Dears.
Be amongst the first to hear tracks from Write Your Adventures Down - A Tribute To The Go-Betweens as PAUHAUS hosts the very special national launch. The album will be released almost one year since Grant McLennan passed away unexpectedly. It was assembled by David McCormack and his former Custard band-mate Glenn Thompson. Thompson was touring with the Go-Betweens in their final live configuration. Write Your Adventures Down, in-stores Saturday 16 June, features amongst others, Dan Kelly (Head Full of Steam), Augie March’s Glenn Richards (The House That Jack Kerouac Built), Sarah Blasko (Bye Bye Pride) and Patience from The Grates performing Lee Remick, which was instantly added to Triple J this week. Expect to hear album tracks spinning all day at PAUHAUS and a few lucky punters will be taking their own copy home at the end of the night.
PAUHAUS is an all-ages event, but is in a licensed venue. If you wish to drink, please bring ID.

PAUHAUS: ED KUEPPER, RED GHOST JOIN LINE-UP!
Fri 13th Apr
PAUHAUS is thrilled to announce the addition of one immeasurably important artist and a brilliant emerging songstress to add to the already stellar line-up - ED KUEPPER and RED GHOST.
Currently on an antipodean tour taking in the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival, and a few London headline dates, Ed Kuepper is one of Australia’s most influential artists. From The Saints to the Laughing Clowns to his incredible solo work, Kuepper’s influence can be heard around the world. Don’t miss his headline performance in the Visy Theatre - an exclusively acoustic space in the multi-stage venue.
Sydney songstress Rosa Agostino will open the Visy Theatre under her RED GHOST moniker. Commonly compared to other amazing female artists such as Cat Power, Mazzy Star and Fiona Apple, Rosa will perform songs from her recently released Brittle Times EP.
Recorded over 4 days, Brittle Times features Red Ghost on all instruments – guitars, piano, hammond, drums, bass and vocals - brilliantly showcasing her blues, folk and jazz influences.

PAUHAUS: a movement in music!
Wed 4th Apr
With your wristbands and stubby cooler gathering dust in the corner, your sunburn long healed and the ringing in your ears just a sweet memory, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Queensland music festival season had ended until next summer – fear not!
Secret Service and Brisbane Powerhouse are thrilled to bring you PAUHAUS: a festival of contemporary music on Saturday 9 June!
Celebrating the re-opening of the refurbished building across the Queen’s Birthday weekend, PAUHAUS - a spin on the term Bauhaus used to describe a rich period of art and architecture in Europe throughout the 1920s - will take over Brisbane Powerhouse encompassing all performance areas and featuring some of Australia’s best indie, rock, guitar, acoustic and electronic artists and bands.
Curated by Paul Piticco (Dew Process Recordings/Splendour in the Grass), PAUHAUS plans to help put the Powerhouse back on Brisbane’s live music radar.
Says Piticco, “since my very first Powderfinger photoshoot 15 years ago at what was once a derelict, junkie-inhabited shell, I’ve always been inspired by the Powerhouse – it’s visually spectacular and the space instills a real feeling of grandeur.”
“Since the original refurbishment in 2000, I’ve looked for a reason to put on a multi-stage show that utilizes the entire facility – and now is the moment!”
Performing at the inaugural PAUHAUS festival is:
THE GRATES! Headlining the Turbine Hall - PAUHAUS’ main stage - is Brisbane’s favourite trio. Having lost none of their moxy in the absence from Australian stages in the last 6 months, the band are back to debut a bunch of new songs before they abscond to write album #2!
THE PANICS’ blend of perfect, dreamy, fragile pop is underpinned with poignant lyrics and great guitar. Hailing from Australia’s west coast, The Panics will soon be heading into the studio to lay down their third LP.
Hot on the heels of the release of their debut album (out April 21), EXPATRIATE will bring their fuzzed-out atmospheric, killer pop-rock tunes to the Turbine Hall – a perfect accompaniment to the rough-hewn but stylish space.
Headlining the sensational Powerhouse Theatre is Sydney’s pop-rock guitar quartet RED RIDERS – as fasterlouder.com.au say, “if you haven’t seen this band live you’re doing yourself a great disservice.”
Rolling Stone Magazine puts it best when describing DAPPLED CITIES FLY: “Fun exuberant indie-pop, that's weird enough to be interesting and familiar enough to be indelibly catchy”.
Joining Red Riders and Dappled Cities Fly on the Powerhouse Theatre stage is Aussie ‘femcee’ MACROMANTICS and rock outfit BIT BY BATS. These are two of the most exciting Aussie live acts around and we snagged them!
A dedicated acoustic stage, Visy Theatre will host burgeoning and brilliant new acts WHITLEY and WONS PHREELY. Describing his own sound as that “of an Australian folk musician who's watched way too many Wes Anderson films”, Whitley’s story is just unfolding – and it’s certainly worth listening to. Wons Phreely has been described as one of Australia’s most exciting new song-writers – don’t miss one of his first Brisbane shows!
Like many bands before them, OPERATOR PLEASE rose to prominence through a battle of the bands competition. Unlike many bands before them, they have managed to keep the punter’s attention with sharp, fast and catchy tunes – catch them in the Turbine Hall.
Grunge is back and it’s louder than ever thanks to VIOLENT SOHO! Opening the Turbine Hall, and with influences like The Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Bikini Kill and Sonic Youth, this will be a party for those still hanging on to their flannos (and those that were too young to be there the first time!)
Judging by the rapturous crowds at YVES KLEIN BLUE’s recent shows, you’ll want to get to PAUHAUS early to catch the MTV Kickstart comp winners! See them kick off proceedings in the Powerhouse Theatre.
The final space in Brisbane Powerhouse to be PAUHAUS’d is the Spark Bar, with the PURPLE SNEAKERS DJs featuring PhDJ. These cool Sydney cats will are renowned for enticing non-stop dance riots with their mish mash of awesome tunes. Expect Belinda Carlisle mixed into The Strokes, Daft Punk mashed over The Refused and The White Stripes doing it with The Ronettes!
